Dr. Michael P. Williams elected HCC Board Chairman for 2010

The Houston Community College Board of Trustees elected Dr. Michael P. Williams to serve as chairman of the HCC Board for 2010.

Dr. Williams’ represents District IV, one of the most ethnically diverse districts in the HCC system, for more than a decade. As an HCC Trustee, Dr. Williams has served as Board Chair in 2005, Deputy Secretary, chairman of the Finance Committee and chairman of the Ad Hoc Chancellor Search Committee.

The Board also elected Neeta Sane (District VII) as Vice Chairman and newly elected Trustee Sandie Meyers (District VI) as Secretary.

Dr. Williams earned his undergraduate degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri; his Master of Divinity degree from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Southern Methodist University, located in Dallas, Texas. While at Yale, he earned the coveted Yale Graduate Fellowship and the Rockefeller Foundation's Protestant Fellowship. At SMU, his doctoral dissertation on mentoring as an evangelistic method was awarded highest honors. Dr. Williams is also a supporter of HCC’s Male Minority Initiative, a program designed to decrease the high school dropout rate of minority males in the Greater Houston area.

After thanking his fellow trustees for having the confidence in him to elect him Chairman, Williams said: “I am looking forward to the most successful year in the history of this institution and will do everything in my power to see that it happens.”
